Day 1 - Landed in San Juan
Today Watkinson's Puerto Rico travelers landed safely in San Juan!!! We started off our trip with a gorgeous lunch at Marbella, right by the beach. Everyone was super chatty even with the salsa music making it hard to hear, and the DJ even shouted out Connecticut! After lunch, we drove over to Amigos to shop for our groceries! We split into group and ventured throughout the store to find everything we needed for the week. Once we had FINALLY finished our shopping, it started pouring... suddenly the rain stopped and we thought "this is our window". as the Watkinson students and teacher started to walk quickly to our van Sabrina yelled "this is a trap" and the rain slowly started to speed up. We then realized that this was not our window and we should have let Ms. Alferi wave the van over. We loaded our groceries into the van as fast as possible. While some Watkinson students tried to escape the rain, Mr. Kozey and Jordy sacrificed their dryness for the rest of us. Once everything was secure in the van we started to drive to Casa Coral, a little bit damp but very excited to see where we would be staying.
Once we arrived at Casa Coral we brought our groceries and bags in and started to organize where all of the groceries. After organizing we instantly went to exploring and trying to see the rooms, but much to our dismay the rooms were all locked and we had to wait for them to be opened before deciding where everyone would stay. After choosing our rooms and settling in we had our very first puerto rico black out. Some would think of a black out as a set back or an inconvenience, but not us! We found ways to have full light and still play board games (Spy Alley: A Watkinson senior favorite).
We then got stopped mid game to talk about some trip rules. All of these rules were pretty expected so there wasn't much disappointment on students faces. We also had a friend join us for this meeting. A cat that we named Janq (Hank). For dinner we had pizza that Mr. Kozey traveled through the rain to get us. After a few more board games and blackouts, we all headed to our rooms to fall asleep. Can't wait for tomorrow!
Sincerely, your favorite Puerto Rico travelers.
